ufc number one contenders
A champion in any sport has set a huge target on his back, but when they fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) the biggest and baddest men on the planet are gunning for you at all times, title shot or not. In fifteen years, 97 events in the history of only 11 fighters UFC defended his title more than once. This list of elite fighters, rightly earned his place in UFC history, as many critics and fans of the sport I think is not really a champion until he successfully defended his belt. Those who made more than once clearly the cream of the crop. So who is the greatest of all time?
The following is a list of fighters UFC title defenses with multiple hits. You decide what the best of the best is. If the criterion principal is the number of consecutive successful defenses, Anderson Silva is the undisputed king. If the total number of defenses is the measuring stick, Matt Hughes get approval. And if the caliber of competition Champion is also a concern, I think that rather than argue for Silva.
1. Matt Hughes (WW) – defenders: 7
Matt Hughes and UFC legend. He defended his title with a total of seven times during two separate visits as UFC welterweight champion. During his first term like the champion he has defended five times against the likes of Gil Castillo and Frank Trigg (lol). I'm having fun here, but in a more serious note, Matt Hughes has delivered a load of quality fighters in his illustrious career, however, looking at his list of candidates, certainly not compared to Anderson Silva's.
2. Anderson Silva (MW) – defenders: 6
After his last defense, he is now the sole record holder for consecutive defenses in the UFC. Despite all the criticism was undeserved UFC 97, remains the champion of UFC middleweight and pound for pound king. The next time someone has the balls to enter the cage with him and try to impose their will on it, bet it will continue to dominate. (See Anderson is the champion!) Its all defenses and challenges, has beaten is nothing short of excellent!
3. Tito Ortiz (TSL) – Defense Title: 5
UGH! It hurts to have to put the "Huntington Beach Bad Boy" in this list, but facts are facts. Tito has defended his heavyweight title 2000 to 2002, until Randy Couture has taken away from him. It was then that Randy gave Bad Boy deserved body as a punishment humiliating beating … HA HA!
4. Chuck Liddell (TSL) – Defense: 4
"Iceman" is a Defense grooves with the most impressive. Including his victory over Randy Couture to win the title he won and defended the title five consecutive wins TKO. Randy, Tito, Jeremy Horn and Renato Sobral all victims were in the hands of dynamite Chuck during his reign as champion.
5. Pat Miletich (WW) – Title Defenses: 4
Miletich made its official debut at UFC 16 and won the first UFC Lightweight Tournament. In 2001, the UFC has changed the limits of weight class, the establishment of halfway. , In the UFC 17: Ultimate Brazil, beat Pat and Marcus Burnett became the first champion of the UFC welterweight. He continued to defend welterweight belt four times before losing to Carlos Newton by submission at UFC 31.
6. Frank Shamrock (TSL) – Defense: 4
"The Legend" was the lightweight champion from 1997 to 1999, until he lost his title retirement. The talent he has faced was so that fashion, but Shamrock was impressive victories – all this in mind, KO or TKO in the first round, except of blows that makes Tito, culminating in the strike in the fourth round.
7. Randy Couture (HW) – Defense Title: 3
Randy "The Natural" Couture Perhaps the most popular mixed martial artist of all time, won the heavyweight championship four times (1 title), and successfully defended A total of three times. He also won the Lightweight belt twice, but never successfully defended. Even if your win-loss might not be as bright as some of the other great champions of the UFC, the For some it is the greatest of all time for its achievements in two weight classes to older ages.
8. Combatants following have defended their respective titles 2 times:
a. Tim Sylvia (HW) (Read Tim Sylvia and like it or not Freak Show)
b. George St-Pierre (WW)
c. Rich Franklin (MW)
d. Andrei Arlovski (HW)
9. Royce Gracie (open) – Tournaments Won: 3 PDU
Gracie and Royce Gracie Jiu Jitsu family, to whom we owe much of anything, has also been a great champion. He won UFC 1, 2, and 4 tournaments, which were long night, events without weight classes. It was not until UFC 16, which the title and belt system has been implemented. Royce was also a great martial artist, with many one of the largest.
I think most will be agreed that the list of combatants is very impressive, however, all challenges were the main contenders. Never mind that the competition was a feat in itself to win more than one or two fights in a row in the National Football League (NFL) of mixed martial arts, and more, while a seat belt.
