A tennis player is heavily focused on an opponent who made the ball and anticipate how to return successfully. The response time is the short time interval for the player to determine how to play the ball before he or she is already starting to move.

The ability of an athlete determined to respond speed with which he or she can make the right decision. Delays in responses can make the difference between winning and losing. Athletes who can accelerate the decision process have a competitive advantage over rivals.

The possible movements of an athlete can perform in a specific competitive situation, the longer it takes an opponent to react successfully. This relationship is called Hick's Law.

Tips to improve reaction time and decision making

1. Opponents Play course of study. When athletes know the typical strategies of an opponent or move, can reduce the number of possible moves counter. Scouting reports provide valuable information for coaches who can help their teams play opponents predict that the signals against movements provided.

2. Opponents key personnel of the indices. Telescopes personal key of the adversary (eg, position, focusing) can telegraph your next move, which limits the number and choice, thus accelerating the correct answer from the athlete.

3. Simulate competition. The quantity and quality of practice of competition can reduce reaction time. Friendly competition and simulations to teach athletes to make the right decisions in the context of increasing complexity and anxiety levels, increasing the playing conditions. For example, a black belt in martial arts competitions can specifically address a number of oncoming opponent strikes with minimal delay, especially when you know what action the opponent under pressure.

4. Anticipating the actions of the defensive players. Offensive players can trick your opponents by drawing in response to predictable movements. If the opponents are unable to anticipate a new movement, the transformation is slower. For example, a volleyball player mai signal peak, suddenly run a Dink effectively capture the defense off guard.

5. Find the area of performance. The response time and decisions are influenced by so excited, or pumped, the athletes are. The athletes whose emotions are too high in the competition in May detect a limited number of key signals because its focus pressure narrows.

Coaches can help athletes maintain an optimal level of arousal through the use of breathing exercises, progressive relaxation, visualization, meditation and abilities. Achieving the optimal excitation promotes an efficient information processing, reduce at least the negative influence of competition from high-level decision-making.
