BJJ In My Eyes November 2009 – Achieving a BJJ black belt, and responsibilities, you must agree with her! Part 3

The last two months gave me the opportunity to not only think and write on the responsibilities of black belt, but all responsibility testsyour humility, his process restructuring, attitude everyday, the way you think as an athlete and martial artist, his grace with the other students, emotional maturity, and along the entire responsibility, while following the path of purpose BJJ black belt.

Responsibility

This does not come with a belt black. Autonomous responsibility is charged. This originates from the white belt, and changes in blue and purple belt. The brown belt is the maturation process research, and understand and accept their leadership roles are growing. Or to be more and more.

I have a lot to catch up with some of my coaches John Masters, and Carlos Machado Rigano lately, and have absorbed their views and philosophy of many points of view of BJJ.

The weekend of December 12, 2009 I had my quarterly workshop at home. Participants have quarterly seminars for my academy and the Association of Academies of Texas along. My coach Master and mentor Carlos Machado had learned three months ago at my academy. He and I talked to discuss plans for the year 2010, and had intended to visit in December, so I thought it would be a great host to new. I got a surprise when one of my coaches Master Rigano other was visiting Machado Carlos and a surprise Last minute I thought I wanted to come to visit me in Austin with Carlos.

I note that the Master Carlos Machado facebook commenting on the seminar this past weekend, it addresses a vital issue for me, and the common principles:

Carlos Machado: "Dear friends Vandry BJJ, students, and above all, a true community of disciples in the martial art lineage Machado. I want to thank each and every one of you for your continued support of his teacher, my family, and the principles of what we want. The dedication, loyalty and respect. It is a long term relationship that will last of future generations. And I'm proud to say that you're part of it! "

Rigano Master Machado followed by a post as well:

Rigano Machado: "Brother Vandry Thank you for the opportunity to meet so many people of Nice students who are part of academia! Carlos has done a great martial artist, but his talent has taken him to a level that few can meet. You inspire other as they pass the lessons we have learned so close to our parents. It is a story that continues to this day not only for construction, while retaining a legacy that goes much further in the future. We all make a difference right now! Now go train some more! Get some X Guard exercises you have learned when you visited me in California a few years ago! Be sure to thank Dr. Jeff BJJ, and Marshall, Richard. It took good care of me, but I still will do them if they mess ups in the exercises! Take care, my brother! "

Rigano Machadour parents. It is a story that continues to this day, not only the building, but preserving a legacy that goes much further in the future. We all make a difference right now! Now go train some more! Get some X Guard exercises he learned when he visited me in California, some years! Be sure to thank Dr. Jeff BJJ, and Marshall, Richard. Are careful well of me, but still make me do push-ups if they mess with the years! Take care, my brother!

We talked about many types of personality and attitudes, and in this sense, the objectives of some professionals, and most importantly Again the goals I believe in.

I think it's one of those rare items that I am a subject that we've never really heard of. I think I'll go a little More on the debate about the dark side, or the poor guys trying to get the belt ranking, business, celebrity and money in BJJ.

I spoke with Professor John Machado on the phone recently. He spoke of energy. Began illustrating philosophically on the way energy is used and how comes and goes. Sometimes we have a selfish motivation or we do something based on the principles of evil energy, and then we ususally have had on our roads good energy. This seems a bit mystical, but it seems total sense. For example, if a thief broke into a bank and are caught, usually did not admit the crime.

Hmmm.

As for the responsibilities of a BJJ Black Belt, develop growth, experience, maturity and so on. Most of the time in other traditional martial arts, a black belt is not an absolute end. Sometimes a black belt in tae kwon do, for example, or karate students are older who are constantly evolving. BJJ, sometimes in the past 10-15 years, has always been an unfair representation if a student arrives at belt level blue or purple. When I received my blue belt, I was one of Texas all ten. I have been affiliated with Prof. Carlos Machado and maintain a personal and business relationship with him and his brothers since 1996 and I was his first and oldest member. I remember when I asked to be an affiliate, I really thought I was unqualified, and he invited me to give a class to get the Machado BJJ style Texas. I remember Carlos to help seminars in different places, and took me with him to Las Vegas in 1996 to Chuck Norris FAFA (United Fighting Arts Federation) Convention. I learned a lot in your help and how I was going to teach, mentor and develop new ideas. I was still very, very little experience, and when I became a purple belt, which was Carlos for the first time in Texas. I realized that my purple belt to anyone who needed training in my classes. Even the fear of a blue belt training people. When I moved to Austin, Texas, in 1999, was the same reaction. For me, showed that times equipped with seats that people misunderstood what project they are. Purple Belt has a good foundation and intermediate skills-advanced, but it is still a student purple belt. I have a brown belt for example, that can beat very hard, but the information, education and skills development to guide others students are still in need of polishing. I personally never felt that people should treat anyone with an attitude of worship of idols. I think when reach our black belt in BJJ, we choose our path and destiny. And responsibility. It always starts at white belt.

When we get a BJJ black belt, not only to have come to the knowledge of teaching techniques, a good combat capability and development of ideas, but we also understand that our behavior is a microscope every day. If you are a black belt, and hit a student who intentionally say is heel hook Are you a new white belt or neck crank, in my opinion, you have shown nothing but anger and an internal conflict that should never be overcome. More bullying attitudes that are immature and are not impressive, and most of the time, these guys never grow out of it. This is different from all students wild. Students have a new kind of barbarism that can not help. They must be assembled to develop the flow, patience and the General control.

I received a gift from God to solve problems. In BJJ, I remember training with Master Rigano California Machado in 2001 to prepare for the world championship of Pan Am She said: "Sometimes the best way to learn to be a professional more than Jiu-jitsu is to get your @ $ $ kicked. "We all laughed, but it was a very serious and philosophical statement. Has complex to do with humility. Unless you learn humility, if not learn from our shortcomings, our moral and naive holes for our game, so we still have hear an unexplored region of our career BJJ.

I remember a year without Rigano me time to prove my defense in California. It was an exercise in who had three of his boys and started my first round with them on the basis of Lateral mounted on two began with them myself and three mounting assembly of the back. It was a great learning curve for me, was for me to escape and fight back when behind the points. To this day, sometimes when my class sparring I'm taking some of my best students and left in place or on the side or back. From there, I escaped into practice, the angles of defense, but mostly you frustrating to work with angles that you need to address mental. Sometimes some of my students have bored me a look of disdain when I play defense. Some people think I am "Play." I'm not. He explained several times to my students that I am fully aware of a threatening situation, how to resolve such Memories, I'm vulnerable and how to prevent, avoid or disable. This problem solving technique gained some mental barriers when I was a white belt and blue wrong positions.

I took in October on facebook post my mentor Master Carlos Machado wrote about myself:

Carlos Machado: "I see my students as Mr. Vandry really understand the concepts of being a better human being, educator and mentor. Few people have that luxury!

There followed a very important position in the footsteps of my coach:

Carlos Machado

"Yes. Mr. Vandry followed my footsteps and to date has never wavered in his faith in the philosophy of Machado! He proved to be one of my most loyal friends and true. Viva Vandry BJJ !!!!!"

When I read Master Declaration Machado is the true luxury for me. training, learning and the development of nearly 15 years of my relationship with Carlos, Roger, Rigano, Jean Jacques Machado and Juan, I was taught that education and keeps me in this area is the concern continuing education and relationships with students.

I think that I have never heard or read Trash Talk Master Rickson Gracie really. Segui response when people questioned his ability to file control or against it. He listened to his philosophy of the documentary "Choke." I absorb every word he says, and apply them to my personal philosophy. Some quotes from Rickson give an overview of a martial arts philosophy:

True Force not always indicated by the victory. Stand up, try again and display strength of heart. "

Rickson Gracie -

"Forgiveness is its own reward."

Rickson Gracie -

"My code of life and my personal honor is bushido, respect, loyalty, courage and submission. "

Rickson Gracie -

"Look around and find something to be grateful."

Rickson Gracie -

"I can cope with pressure? Yes, always my first thought."

Rickson Gracie -

This legend is not just a fighter. Rickson Gracie was and is a philosopher, warrior, martial artist and a man of honor. He tried many times and this is important, and opened the doors for many of us in BJJ.

In my opinion, the more we have people enrolled in martial arts, you get different types, and we have different types of targets as mentioned above. I'm a martial artist, and I have been in martial arts since sixth grade. I've always been a fan of Bruce Lee films, and if I find any martial arts magazine, I'd like to read, read again and again. MMA and BJJ in the industry, we seem to have much room for improvement. In my academy and my affiliates in Texas, the rule is to respect others. I once heard an actor and politician Jesse "The Body" Ventura said in an interview where he talked about his days of professional wrestling. I remember he said that in Pro Wrestling, the safety of his opponent was more troubling than his.

Ventura also commented on Brock Lesnar UFC fight and his antics:

http://mma.fanhouse.com/2009/07/16/ufc-100-video-brock-lesnars-antics-make-jesse-ventura-ashamed/

In all the speeches if Pro Wrestling Brock Lesnar at UFC style antics discredits 100 mixed martial arts, no one thought about whether antics Lesnar has tarnished the image of professional wrestling – at least until the former governor of Minnesota, and WWF star Jesse "The Body" Ventura appeared on Larry King Live.

After explaining to the king that there is nothing like boxing final "Ventura said he respects and loves MMA, but believes that Lesnar has crossed the line with their behavior on Saturday night.

"I think it's great because I have been for them and I think it very professionally, with the exception of what Brock Lesnar did "Ventura said of the UFC." I was ashamed of his behavior at the end of the fight. These guys are honorable, they are friendly, these guys offered to do, the referees are very good. "

Martial arts students against disrespectful arrogance

I've always tried to maintain respect a safe and educational, training BJJ in my academy, and in my teaching career of 14 years. The worst thing for a student who is head hunting or want to travel more straps or simply "ask for a taxi."

In me is an attitude so disrespectful when people do that. I have a rule that must belts carry smaller belts more and never approach them asking crossbar. Superior belts belts always ask upper and lower rail. To have this attitude negative issues rather the sense of not only training in BJJ, but everything in life. If Rigano, John, Jean-Jacques, Roger Machado and Carlos clinical instruction, it would be so disrespectful to someone "we ask them to drive" or mast. These are men who have participated and won several world championships have been involved in Judo Sambo, wrestling and Abu Dhabi Grappling World Championships. They have nothing to prove to anyone. I believe that in our basic training class should be closely monitored for the student to develop the comfort introduction, not stress or feel you are in a shootout each class. In our advanced classes, our senior students belted train with different partners all the time, poor work positions, new ideas and solve problems while developing their skills.

It true that some schools and going, and not everyone is a great teacher, or even a good organizer for teaching, but if anyone has come to a brown belt or black the first question. The second issue is to investigate and confirm what they say are associated with low or have come with rank. My Associations Texas have all my support and maintain all training under me to develop new strategies. There were some people who claim to be associated under me in parts of Texas and I right in saying that in a day. To develop a partnership or teacher-student relationship has to grow you need to develop and to thank them. If no conflict with any of my schools affiliates, do not think it will be clear who is on this side of the line.

I've been in this industry for 14 years. I was the first subsidiary Machado Texas, and for all days of the Wild West, and saw too much drama that does not relate to our philosophy. There are so many great things about this industry too, and I hope that to defend the cause of education in the public eye in the sense that we are not bullies or people who simply arrogant challenges. We must be masters of martial arts first. We must practice the philosophy of the Great Carlos Gracie (Machado brothers and husband uncle aunt's Lair).

Carlos Gracie challenge games. He and his brothers fought in them, but his intention was to demonstrate his style of Jiu-Jitsu. I remember when I was a white belt, I heard my instructor Master Carlos Machado Carlos Gracie talks. He said that while he and his brothers came to the United States, Carlos Gracie told to be humble, do not get into fights, arguing or denying mentality. Carlos Gracie said he told him (Carlos Gracie and his brothers) had to do that, then to test the BJJ style, but they (males) need to teach philosophy and humility.

I'll never forget. I always kept it to myself. Anyone can train and learn martial arts, martial arts, but can not teach everyone. What I mean is even with the data, philosophy and education means nothing to some people.

The eye black students

In my fourteen years of experience I have learned from their mistakes, I had students come and go, but the great have been there or are yet in my training, or in contact if you live in another state or city. In both character and attitude can be tolerated so far, and we, the instructors are required and responsibility to divert the personality disorders of our academies. I have expelled five students in total in my fourteen years. Usually, if there are problems with student need a private conversation, advice, guidance and communication in order as follows. Sometimes, unfortunately, none of this works. And unfortunately, the students be prejudicial to the academy.

Since it began in October 1995, saw Texas and the United States grow in BJJ and come and go many in the industry. I have seen many people in training for a very long time. I also saw something that anyone in search of a cult club these adolescents 40 years, trying to start a new career.

I've seen forum posts where people are looking to recruit instructors to teach in a place to rent. If you are a certified trainer or promoter, which can be justified. When people are simply trying to seize the opportunity, usually an organization with malicious intent.

I have seen messages from people seeking advice on how to start BJJ or MMA school, or even wanting to be a promoter of MMA.

Ouch.

When I started teaching at the irony. I never thought of it as a way for me "live" "Career" or anything to do with finances. Of course, I teach full time and this is my life I do now, but when I approached my instructor Carlos Machado to show an association, do not think I was qualified. I do not think I would have to sign. I should have been more than a black belt. And I still remember like it was yesterday that Carlos Machado said.

He said: "We have to Jiu-Jitsu in Texas. We must show people our philosophy and approach to teach humility to the public more of our philosophy. "

Funny, until today never thought how much I wanted to do, or what fame and fortune he is assisted by art, not by the expansion of his philosophy. Never started mentally counting how many want the number of students, and others.

This the First misconception of this company and every industry. Anyone can wish for a BMW dealership, but it is better to know how he or she works in the first place.

Work ethic in the martial arts

One thing I learned at an early age in life is the work ethic. Some people will never understand what it means. I'm shopping bags when 13, has grass as a teenager, and when I graduated high school, RP and tar and bounced in a nightclub, while juggling my first year of college.

The second year I moved to another school in Kansas to a partial football scholarship to pay my studies. These objectives have been good in these days of desire, but I had and I've always wanted, I had and have the motivation. I note that the motivation was not "money" was the fulfillment of a better life and a profession, and make a difference, hopefully for the good of others.

I went to work on the actual day and work in nightclubs, eventually, to invest in real estate and owns a nightclub and an academy of BJJ. I also learned that when it's successful, you must give a little to your community to help others.

I understand the concept of work hard. I understand the concept of goal setting. And along the way there are the trips and stumbles. I had a head injury years ago I got terrible back and threatened my life. I know what it is to start over. I know what it is to assess the value of life. Even the little things.

I have had many tell me that my students have requested or offered discounts, free training, etc, to go elsewhere, but chose not to. I do not really care to implement such request to all. They usually get about every month or two students of other martial arts schools in my area. I realized that when people ask to join my class, I usually get to talk with your instructor first, and if they want to train with me, then it is clear to them. Personally, I see nothing flattering students who stand out from other schools to come to mine. it is usual to continue to do so wherever they go. I never believed in the philosophy of flying two flags. A lot of these students only wanted to train in both places to save mate different time with different people. No, thanks. I have some of the absolute best students could not have asked, and most importantly, loyal, well-studied and help each other grow in all directions. This is what they teach. That's what I've learned in my 14 years.

I make my bones to life, and I told my partner schools (Buda, Luling, Seguin, Brownsville, Harlingen and Weslaco) the same thing, and virtually all philosophy. They are diplomats of our wonderful art and, above all, the philosophy that I have given my instructors were given to them.

I sat with my all representatives of the association several times over the years and talked, had lunch or dinner, talks about his work, life, laugh together and the whole question of His people. They have been trained, participated, took private lessons I and my philosophy, and more, I want to succeed. If I can help with business, promotion, contracts, class, education, counseling, etc. I improvise. I want to grow to disseminate online, and our message of BJJ media. I would not change a million or ten million for the relationship I have with my associations.

Rigano Master Machado spoke of many various issues of philosophy, teaching, teacher-student relations and their importance, and other things. Rigano told me a very good point about education and questions students, the company BJJ. Rigano said students come, students go, money comes, money goes, but his true friends and family, you must be always near him, always.

To my surprise, actually comes with Rigano Charles Austin to teach my seminar quarterly Carlos 12 December. after a long weekend of taxation, on Sunday afternoon, I Rigano and Carlos spoke in my living room. Rigano I asked a question:

"Rigano, what made you come to Texas in December?

Rigano responded by saying: "I wanted to see you and Carlos. I wanted to spend time and comply with their students. "

Wow. Just like that. What a man. The answer is simple. Machado was Rigano.

Thank Your Rigano Carlos Machado and a fantastic weekend! 2009 is a great year, and our participation, faithful students, recent black belt and Carlos visits Rigano Machado and capped a great learning, growth and development of a great community!

Incredible years! Merry Christmas and Happy Year New to all! I hope that 2010!
